1/21 – Qualisys and SKF

We started today of by visiting a motion capture and technology company named Qualisys. The presentation was led by Magnus, a former colleague of professor JJ. Magnus was extremely kind and interactive with the class, and I really enjoyed learning about the company. My favorite part was that I was selected to be the test subject for a demo on their running test! They put me in this way too tight outfit and put like 30 sensors all over my body and had me run on a treadmill at various speeds while the sensor tracked everything. After, they went back and reviewed the data, and boosted my ego a bit by telling me that the data shows my running form is nearly perfect! It was a really cool experience to have a free test analyzed for me that would normally cost someone hundreds or even thousands of dollars to have done! After that, they ran some sensors on some other classmates and tracked their basic movements. Finally, we ended our time at Qualisys with a delicious fish and potato lunch provided by Magnus!

After our visit at Qualisys, we headed out to go visit SKF. This company specializes in being the leading producer of ball bearings in the world. They had a HUGE factory and tons of stuff to see during the tour. Unfortunatley, photography was not allowed so most of the photos from this tour were taken in the general facilities.

After our time at SKF was over, we returned to our hostel and set out for dinner. A group of us found a cool place called “I Love Pizza” and i tried a meat lovers pizza… that came with shrimp on it! It was definitely the first time I ever had pizza with shrimp on it, but it turned out to be delicious!

3 Big Takeaways

  1. Shrimp on pizza is good and needs to become more common in the U.S.!!!
  2. Technology is wayyyy more advanced than we can wrap our heads around sometimes. Some of the things they have going on at Qualisys really blew my mind.
  3. Continue to step out of your comfort zone… it may just relult in making some cool memories and experiences that you will have for the rest of your life.
